How is OSINT different from social media investigations?

Social media investigations concentrate on accounts, posts, networks, and platform behaviour. OSINT includes social sources when useful, plus corporate filings, public databases, domain history, media archives, and other open materials. Think program versus channel. Many files use both, sequenced deliberately.

How is OSINT different from digital investigations?

Digital investigations deal with devices, storage media, and data the client lawfully controls or obtains through legal process. OSINT deals with what is already public. If your key evidence is on a laptop, you are in the digital lane. If your key evidence is across the open web and public records, you are in OSINT.

What good OSINT reporting looks like

Good reports show where each fact came from, when it was captured, and how confident the analyst is. Weak reports dump links and adjectives. Counsel should be able to annex exhibits without reconstructing the analyst’s browsing history from memory.

Languages, jurisdictions, and source bias
