Kate Warne was the first female Investigator. The famous Alan Pinkerton hired her because she could access places where men couldn’t. The peak of her career came in 1861 when she saved President Lincoln’s life by persuading him to transfer to another train, confusing the assassins’ plans.
She solved many well-known cases, for example recovering stolen money for Adams Express: In 1868, Warne was hired by Adams Express to investigate a theft of $40,000 from a package in transit. Warne successfully identified and captured the suspect, who had hidden the money in a trunk. Also, in 1868, Warne was hired by the American Bank in New York City to investigate a case of embezzlement.
Warne successfully identified and captured the embezzler, who had fled to Canada with $30,000 of stolen money.
